• Successful completion and celebration of Wayfinder Crew 2022 & Cultural Trip to Oahu, Hawaii.

• Established partnership with the Gifted Hands Care Provider. Invited to support a conversation on their podcast highlighting the work IKUNA does in the community. Grant awarded to support the Wayfinder youth program.

• Fananga K-5 literacy mentoring and support in elementary schools across the Oakland Unified school district.  

• Grant awarded by the Bridge Association of Realtors Community Foundation Grant.

• Celebration of Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month at Reach Academy Elementary school.

• In partnership with Oakland Unified School District coordinated and supported the 5th annual Pacific Islander Honor Roll celebration.

• Facilitated teacher training at the Stanford Teacher Education Program (STEP)

• Student field trip In partnership with Kumu Kawika and the Hawaiian Cultural Center (Kalulehua) in Napa, CA to build cultural knowledge.

• Donated over 100 backpacks in partnership with the Hayward Lions pickleball club for students in the island kingdom of Tonga after the volcanic and tsunami disaster.

• Youth Power Retreat event in partnership with OUSD to raise awareness amongst our Pacific Islander students and youth around student leadership and participating in advocacy for our community.

• Recipient of the Oakland Literacy Grant to support the increase of the Pacific Islander literacy rates in Oakland

• Support the establishment of Pacific Islander affinity clubs on OUSD campuses.

• Host Saturday literacy events to promote reading at a young age in partnership with the Oakland Public Library, Diamond Branch. 

• Partnership with Oakland Artist Tracy Williams and the utilization of art for storytelling.

• Hosted 2nd pickleball tournament to support health and wellness in the Pacific Islander community.

• Supported AYPAL and Tracy Williams and the mural project at Elmhurst middle school.

• Partnership with OUSD’s Special Education (SPED) department to support Pacific Islander students with learning disabilities.

• Hosted the first Pacific Islander youth pickleball tournament to support health and wellness at a young age in partnership with the Golden State Warriors Foundation, Generation Thrive.

2021

• Successful completion and celebration of Wayfinder Crew 21 first year of youth program focusing on identity, purpose, culture and purpose. 

• Fananga literacy mentoring and support program for Pacific Islander students grades K-5 continues across elementary schools across the Oakland Unified School District.

2020

• Established partnership with Micro College in an effort to support our students after graduation and their successful transition to college.

• Partnership with Educate 78 to support our Fananga literacy efforts.

• Launched weekly zoom discussion forum for our Young Adult Pacific Islanders to provide an outlet for support and discussing various topics.

• Launched weekly zoom Wayfinder Workshops for 9-12 grade students to discuss belonging, culture and purpose.

• Continued Fananga literacy work with over 70 K-5 students to improve reading frequency and comprehension.

• Hosted “Fananga” event for students and community to express literacy through spoken word in support of our literacy efforts in the Oakland Unified.

• In partnership with Oakland Unified took part in the 3rd Annual Virtual Pacific Islander Honor Roll celebration.

• Presenter at the RISE Up for Equity virtual Summit hosted by the Institute for Educational Leadership to share our “Fananga” literacy work and how family engagement can lead to increase student engagement, leadership and belonging.

• Hosted first Oakland Unified Pacific Islander gathering (virtual) to increase family engagement and ensure a successful virtual school year.

• Launched Fananga literacy work with Oakland Unified for the 2020-2021 academic school year.

• Announcement of the “Wayfinder” advising, mentoring and coaching program to guide, set-up and drive students towards their path of college and/or career success

2019

• Launched the “Fananga” literacy program for academic school year 2019-2020 as a result of being awarded contract with Oakland Unified to work with Pacific Islander students K-5 to improve literacy and academic achievement.

• In partnership with Oakland Unified and Laney College hosted the 2nd Annual Pacific Islander Honor Roll celebration.

• Successful family engagement efforts to raise awareness, advocate, organize and engage the Pacific Islander community to fight the removal of district funding for Pacific Islander student support.

• Established business partnership with Movement Ink in Oakland’s Laurel district to develop a community space for community events and retail storefront.

• The re-Launch of IKUNA Apparel where ALL proceeds support our ongoing work to elevate our PI youth and community.

• Organized and established the first Pacific Islander student club on the Laney College campus.

• Established First Pacific Islander student retreat held in partnership with Oakland Unified with the purpose of promoting academic success, college access, mental wellness and life skills.

• Hosted “Expressing Literacy through Music” event to promote how music is a form of identity and how it shares our stories.

• Hosted 2nd Annual Pacific Islander College Night in partnership with Laney College.

2018

• Established the first ever Pacific Islander College Night/Fair in partnership with the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD).

• Established a learning and social community for Pacific Islander students in partnership with with Laney College and Laney College athletics.
